This study focused on the role of the Libyan public universities and higher education institutions in establishing and enhancing the principles of sustainable development in the country, that represented in four principles which are: equality, empowerment, solidarity, good administration and censorship, by estimating the degree of the participating role of the universities in each aspect of sustainable development. The study highlighted the faculty of economics and administration a recently established college of the most important public universities in Tripoli city/Libya ( University of Tripoli ) as a real example of the importance of the universities particularly , as well as the importance of the higher education institutions in general. This study also showed the significant role and the direct contribution of the universities in achieving the goals of sustainable development in Libya. This study is based on one main hypothesis, and it involved the descriptive & the analytic statistical methods for describing & explaining the data that was collected from a questionnaire answered by a sample of the third semester students in the faculty of economics and administration of university of Tripoli. Then, the collected data have been subjected to SPSS & some other statistical tests to analyze and test the hypothesis of the study, that led to a set of conclusions, the most important of which is demonstrating the effective contribution of the faculty of economics and administration of university of Tripoli in accomplishing and enhancing the principles of sustainable development at equality, empowerment, good administration and censorship aspects. While this study revealed a diminished contribution of the faculty of economics and administration of university of Tripoli at the solidarity aspect, as there was no appreciable contribution could be taken in consideration at this aspect.
