Abstract
This study examines the culture of apology as a philosophical issue in which ethics, knowledge, and responsibility intersect, rather than as a merely linguistic formula or social courtesy. It seeks to identify the ethical foundations of acknowledging wrongdoing and respecting the other, as well as the epistemic foundations involved in revising judgment and correcting one’s self-understanding. Using an analytical-critical method with a comparative dimension, the study reads selected works from the Islamic ethical tradition alongside contemporary philosophical accounts of apology and forgiveness. It argues that a genuine apology combines acknowledgment of wrongdoing, responsibility, remorse, and reparation, whereas its moral value diminishes when it becomes justification or image management. The study concludes that a culture of apology requires cultivating a critical conscience and redefining dignity as the capacity to correct error rather than deny it........................
