Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of media in political decision-making during the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip (Operation Al-Aqsa Flood) in the period 2023–2024, as an intense case of media-politics intersection in the context of armed conflict. The study seeks to reveal the nature of the prevailing media discourse and its role in shaping public opinion, and the reflection of this on the positions and behavior of political decision-makers locally and internationally. The study relied on the descriptive-analytical method within a case study framework, alongside the comparative method, in order to analyze the similarities and differences in media discourse between different parties. Data was collected through content analysis of a selected sample of visual, audio, and electronic media outlets, in addition to analyzing the content of social media platforms, and conducting semi-structured interviews with experts and specialists in media and political communication. In analyzing the data, the study relied on thematic analysis and linking the results to their political and media contexts. The results of the study showed that media is no longer merely a transmitter of events, but has transformed into an influential actor in political decision-making, through directing public opinion and intensifying media pressure, especially via digital platforms. The results also revealed fundamental differences in media discourse between Israeli, Palestinian, and Arab media, where the former focused on a justificatory security discourse, while the latter focused on the humanitarian and legal dimension of the aggression. The results highlighted the growing role of social media as an instantaneous pressure tool that influenced official political discourse. The study concluded that the inter action between media and political decision-making has become more complex and influential in light of digital transformations, and recommended the necessity of enhancing media professionalism and independence, developing media coverage tools during times of conflict, and building effective partnerships with human rights institutions, in a way that contributes to supporting more conscious and balanced political decision-making during crises....................
