This research addresses one of the most important issues in Arabic grammatical thought: the debate between "analogy" and "hearing" (or "sound"), as the two fundamental pillars upon which the formulation of grammatical rules rested. The study aims to explore the interactive relationship between transmission (hearing) and reason (analogy) in the grammatical tradition, and how the standards that governed the language for centuries were formulated. The research begins by tracing the historical roots of analogy and hearing among early grammarians, highlighting the differing approaches of grammatical schools in prioritizing one over the other. Some relied on hearing as the unchallenged foundation, while others expanded upon analogy in pursuit of consistency and methodological coherence. The research also discusses the impact of this methodological tension on the formation of grammatical rules, resulting in rigidity in some rulings and numerous exceptions in others. This research dedicates a section to analyzing the suitability of traditional grammatical rules for contemporary language, in light of the transformations in language usage patterns in media, education, and modern writing. It demonstrates that rigid adherence to certain established or aural rules can create a gap between standard grammar and the language actually used. The research also discusses the views of modern scholars who advocate a functional re-reading of the grammatical heritage, one that balances respect for reliable oral tradition with openness to disciplined analogy that responds to the needs of the times. The research concludes by proposing a vision that calls for "developing the rules, not destroying them," by combining the authenticity of grammatical principles with the modernity of contemporary linguistics. This aims to ensure that Arabic remains a vibrant language capable of fulfilling the needs of intellectual and cultural communication.
