One of the primary concerns of urban design is creating successful places for people. During development process, most Libyan cities faced lacking urban qualities due to the absence of a policy to regulate the urban changes. As a result, public place has not being used and defined as a space for social interaction for individual/ groups. This paper explores the qualities of social activities and their significance in enhancing public places of the main street in the city centre of Misurata, Libya. A site observation analysis was conducted to social activities patterns and place characteristics that influence them. The outcome of this paper is hoped to provide sort of definite guidelines and strategies for urban design policy towards better quality of urban life in future development
